कोटक इंस्टीट्यूशनल इक्विटीज ने मिड-कैप और स्मॉल-कैप शेयरों पर अपनी सिफारिशें वापस लेते हुए अपनी रिपोर्ट में कहा कि “ज्यादातर कंपनियों के बुनियादी सिद्धांतों में कोई सार्थक बदलाव नहीं हुआ है; वास्तव में, वे कई मामलों में बदतर हो गए हैं।

Why the rise and fall of stocks:


the Nifty Smallcap 100 witnessed a single-day decline of 4.1% while the Nifty Midcap 100 dropped 3.07%, with 90% of their member stocks closing deep in the red.

Withdrawing its recommendations on mid- and small-cap stocks, Kotak Institutional Equities said in its report that “There is no meaningful change in the fundamentals of most companies; in fact, they have worsened in many cases.

Societe Generale executive Kavish Kataria, who was made the scapegoat amid rumours that he had to liquidate his portfolio worth INR3,000 crore, leading to the sharp fall in mid- and small-cap stocks, clarified in a LinkedIn post that he was still employed with the French financial services giant.

Sanjeev Prasad, managing director and co-head, Kotak Institutional Equities, is one of the best analysts in India.
Prasad categorised mid-caps into stocks with “great history, purported future, and those with no history and possibly (no) future”. 

In the past three and six months, the Nifty Midcap 100 has surged by 20% while the Nifty Smallcap 100 has risen by 23%. Domestic equity mutual funds have witnessed significant inflows in their mid- and small-cap schemes, reflecting bullish investor sentiment. Notably, 6.4 million new folios were opened in mid-cap and small-cap equity mutual funds in the past since March 2022, registering a 34% growth.

“Specific segments — industrials, capex, defence, and railway PSUs seem overextended on valuations. Investors will need to exercise caution and keep bottoms-up risk-reward perspective in mind while investing in mid- and small-cap stocks,” says Gautam Duggal,a  head of research - institutional equities, Motilal Oswal Financial Services.

स्टॉक रडार: स्टॉक्स ऊंचाई से लगभग 40% नीचे!

रासायनिक उद्योग, सितंबर 2022 के उच्चतम स्तर से 40% गिर गया है, लेकिन ट्रेंडलाइन प्रतिरोध से हाल ही में ब्रेकआउट से पता चलता है कि बैल यहाँ रहने के लिए हैं।


16 सितंबर, 2022 को स्टॉक 52-सप्ताह के उच्चतम स्तर 844 रुपये पर पहुंच गया, लेकिन यह गति बनाए रखने में विफल रहा। 15 सितंबर, 2023 को स्टॉक 39% से अधिक की गिरावट के साथ 512 रुपये पर बंद हुआ।


स्पेशियलिटी केमिकल स्टॉक ने भी सितंबर में डबल बॉटम पैटर्न से ब्रेकआउट दिया, जिससे स्टॉक के ऊंचे स्तर पर जाने की गुंजाइश भी खुल गई।

एक्सपर्ट पटेल सलाह देते हैं, "हम व्यापारियों को 580 के संभावित लक्ष्य स्तर के लिए 525-530 रुपये के दायरे में खरीदारी करने का सुझाव देते हैं। हालांकि, अगर यह ब्रेकआउट कायम रहने में विफल रहता है, तो हम 490 पर सख्त स्टॉप लॉस रखकर नुकसान को सीमित कर सकते हैं।"

Stock Radar: Down about 40% from highs!

Chemical industry, has fallen 40% from September 2022 highs but a recent breakout from a trendline resistance suggests that bulls are here to stay.

The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 844 on September 16, 2022, but it failed to hold on to the momentum. The stock closed at Rs 512 on September 15, 2023, translating into a fall of over 39%.

The specialty chemical stock also gave a breakout from a double bottom pattern in September which also opened room for the stock to head higher.
“Aarti Industries Limited stock witnessed a breakout above its major falling trend line with a strong spike in volumes. 

The stock broke its psychological resistance of 500 and sustained well above that price,” Jay Patel, Research Head at Investmentor Securities Limited, said.

Conclusion:
“We suggest traders buy in a range of Rs 525-530 levels for potential target levels of 580. However, if this breakout fails to sustain, we can restrict loss by keeping a strict stop loss at 490,” recommends Patel.

Torrent Pharma gearing up to take over Cipla:

A company that was seen as one of India’s strongest and identified as the country’s pride is at the centre of frenetic moves. Built arduously over nine decades, Cipla founders, the Hamied family, are seeking out buyers.

 The frontrunner in the race is Ahmedabad-based Torrent Pharmaceuticals, part of the power-to-pharmaceuticals group run by brothers Sudhir Mehta and Samir Mehta. 

Bain Capital has also reportedly approached Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories to make a joint bid to buy the Cipla promoters’ stake. High-profile names such as Uday Kotak are said to be in regular touch with Yusuf Hamied in London, while investment bankers JP Morgan are burning the midnight oil to mop up funds for Torrent’s founders.


The deal has not reached the final stages and the promoters are evaluating the offers. “The deal is very much open to possibilities,” a veteran investment banker tells ET Prime. 


what would be the impact?
 

Torrent Pharma, acquiring Cipla, which is 2.5 times its size in sales, is a bold move. While the acquisition would be a good business fit and catapult Torrent to the top of the heap in the domestic market and transform it into the second-largest Indian pharma company in terms of revenue, financing the deal and integration of such a large asset can pose a litany of challenges.


On September 7, Cipla’s shares ended at INR1,248 and its market cap was INR1.01 lakh crore. In the past six weeks, Cipla’s stock has risen about 18% after the market caught a whiff of a likely sellout by the company’s promoters. Meanwhile, Torrent Pharma’s shares closed at INR1,885.45 on September 7 and its market cap was INR63,911 crore.

PhonePe's Stock Broking:



PhonePe announced that Share Market will provide quantitative research, a reliable tech platform, and competitive pricing, thereby fostering a customer-centric investing journey geared towards wealth creation.

Indians have taken to equities like never before. During the same period, more Indians have invested in the stock market through mutual funds.

Even listed firms like Angel Broking, ICICI Securities and IIFL are not behind.
Terming the new entrant PhonePe’s foray into stockbroking as a bold move, Shrey Jain, founder and CEO, Sasonline – a niche discount brokerage house serving over 55,000 professional traders over the past decade – said, “Indian stock brokerages have been in the consolidation mode for over a decade with the advent of technology, coupled with increased number of discount stock brokerages.”

“For players such as PhonePe, they can introduce broking services to their existing clients. It is like expanding the bouquet of offerings. There’s not much downside risk in adding a new venture,” says Nitin Kamath, CEO, Zerodha, India’s largest discount brokerage firm.
Paytm launched Paytm Money in 2019 but was viewed by Kamath as a threat back then.
"The industry is very underpenetrated, and there is room for new players too," says Dinesh Thakkar, CEO of Angel Broking.

Thakkar believes the cost of acquisition of new clients is justified when one considers the lifespan of trading.

WHY THE INDIAN CURRENCY DOWN:
 

Not only could it play a role in taking a bunch of startups to the global market, it also found a few startups from the Valley.


 “We have consciously made this choice [of operating out of Silicon Valley]. Had we not done that, I don’t think we would have seen the results we are seeing today,” said Bhattacharjee.


Irrespective of the strong FII inflow, the rupee depreciated towards the 83-mark. It depreciated amidst a strong dollar movement and recent increase in Brent prices. 


The rupee has already depreciated by ~1% in August 2023 compared to July-end.
