The single-malt maker is a multibagger. Should investors join it?
Shares of this award-winning whiskey maker are up 23x since November 2021, and 12x in the past one year. It is trading at a PE of 48x, which is much cheaper than its peers. But before you decide to buy the whiskey or the stock, here's how the fundamentals look like.
Shares of Piccadily Agro Industries, makers of the now world-known Indian single malt Indri, are on a high.
The stock, which is priced at INR576.45, is up 23x since November 2021. In fact, over the last one year, it has been up 12x, and trading at a PE (price-to-earnings) multiple of 48x. Radico Khaitan, a competitor known for Contessa Rum and premium single-malt Rampur, trades at a PE multiple of 98x. While Piccadily Agro looks cheaper to its peers, will the stock keep delivering these mind-blowing returns? There are three reasons to buy this stock.
According to Statista, the IMFL market is around USD20 million. It is expected to reach USD32 million by 2025 and grow at 10% per annum. In 2023, imported scotch grew by 11% and local single malts by 23%, but they accounted for 53% of the total single-malt sales. This simply means the industry will have a good growth rate into the future. Over the last three years, the sales of Piccadily Agro are up 13% annually. As the market keeps expanding, it will benefit the company.
The company is trying to benefit from the rise of premiumisation in the popular categories of alcobev. And it is not just relying on single malts. Besides the four single-malt expressions that it already has, over the last two years the company entered the premium dark rum market as well.
Currently, Piccadily Agro is the maker of one of the most expensive dark rums in the country called Camikara, which is priced at INR5,700 for a 750ml bottle in Gurugram. The company has three variants of this dark rum already with twelve, eight and three years of aging.
"Indian single malts are in a huge demand right now. But there isn't any distribution/supply- led competition yet. All Indian single-malt manufacturers, whether it's Piccadily, Amrut, Paul John or even Rampur by Radico, are moving really well. Consumers ask for specific Indian single-malt brands, and if unavailable, are happy to try a new option as well," says a Bengaluru-based liquor retailer on the condition of anonymity.
