A real estate player for 4 to 5% gain in a positional trade=:

The markets opened with a modest gain; the Nifty 50 Index piled up gains in the morning session only to give up all the gains by late afternoon trade.

While the markets extended their upmove on Friday, the session remained quite choppy while the Nifty ended with a modest gain. The final hour of the trade saw the markets stage a smart recovery; despite all the choppiness in the trade, the headline index managed to end with a modest gain of 94.35 points (+0.44%).

MAHLIFE formed its high at Rs. 598 in September this year; since then the stock has slipped under a corrective decline. While trending lower following the corrective retracement, the stock slipped below its 50-, and 100-DMA. A subsequent rebound that followed saw the stock forming a lower top at Rs. 555.

The recent technical setup shows the stock resisting the falling trendline that begins from the high point and joins the subsequent lower top while extending itself.

The RSI is neutral and does not show any divergence against the price. However, it is seen breaking out from a similar falling trendline which is a bullish sign. The current consolidation has seen the stock taking support at its 50-DMA which stands at 518.

The OBV has formed a fresh high ahead of the actual price breakout. This is also a bullish sign as it reflects strong accumulation in the stock.

Any resumption in the upmove has the potential to take the stock higher and test Rs. 558 levels over the coming days. Any close below Rs. 505 shall negate this technical setup.

Investors looking for large cap exposure consider Flexi-cap schemes:

 The Nifty Midcap 150 index currently trades at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of 34.5 compared with its five-year average P/E of 33.7. The Nifty 50 index trades at the five-year average multiple of 24.6.

Large caps are expected to do well in 2024 given their attractive valuations, strong balance sheets and favourable earnings outlook. Instead of directly investing in large-cap funds, distributors and analysts recommend flexi-cap funds which have a majority exposure to large-cap stocks.

"In 2024, there will be a gradual shift towards large-cap stocks as mid-and-small-cap stocks have become expensive," said Rupesh Bhansali, head-mutual funds, GEPL Capital. According to Bloomberg data, the Nifty Midcap 150 index currently trades at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of 34.5.

Vishal Dhawan, Founder and CEO, Plan Ahead Wealth Advisors suggests active and passive modes of investing in large caps. "For investors interested in the passive route, we recommend investing in index exchange traded funds (ETFs) or index funds. Those interested in following an active route may invest in flexi-cap schemes." Said Dhawan. He added that flexi- cap funds provide flexibility to fund managers to take exposure without any restriction. There are flexi-cap schemes which provide exposure to well-placed stocks in international markets thereby providing diverse exposure to investors."

IT major Wipro has rallied over 15% in a month to hit a fresh 52-week high last week, and the chart pattern suggests that the rally may not be over yet.

The IT stock, which is a part of the S&P BSE Sensex, rose from Rs 400 as on November 22 to Rs 462 recorded on December 22, which translates into an upside of over 15% in a month.

The S&P BSE Sensex stock underwent a brief period of consolidation from June to December when it moved in a 100-point range where Rs 450 acted as a stiff resistance while on the downside Rs 350 acted as strong support on the weekly charts.

The momentum helped the stock reclaim the 200-week moving average on the weekly charts and break out from the range last week. The stock closed with gains of over 6% on Friday, December 22.

The Nifty IT index seems to be in a short-term uptrend post the recent US Fed meeting. We expect the momentum to continue and within this sector, Wipro has given a breakout after a long consolidation phase," said Ruchit Jain, Lead Research at 5paisa.com.

जबकि आरईसी, पीएफसी और हाल ही में सूचीबद्ध आईआरडीईए जैसे शेयरों के हालिया प्रदर्शन ने बिजली कंपनियों के एक खंड पर ध्यान वापस ला दिया है। लेकिन तथ्य यह है कि पिछले कुछ वर्षों में यह क्षेत्र एकीकरण के दौर से गुजर रहा है। इसमें से कुछ को बैंकों ने बहुत जल्द ही मजबूर कर दिया था, सड़क पर एक यू-टर्न आया, जिसमें बिजली शेयरों का प्रदर्शन सबसे खराब रहा। कारण, इनमें से बड़ी संख्या में कंपनियां कोयले के मुद्दे के कारण कानूनी मामलों में फंस गईं और कैप्टिव खदान मामले ने उन पर बहुत बुरा असर डाला। उसी समय, वैश्विक कोयले की कीमतों में उछाल आया, जिससे चीजें और भी मुश्किल हो गईं। परिचालन पक्ष पर, केंद्रीय और राज्य दोनों स्तरों पर विनियमित होने वाले बिजली क्षेत्र को विभिन्न समय पर कई बाधाओं का सामना करना पड़ा।

भुगतान में कुछ समय की देरी नकदी प्रवाह को प्रभावित करती है और यदि कंपनी की बैलेंस शीट ख़राब है या उधार लेने की लागत बहुत अधिक है तो यह एक बड़ी परेशानी बन जाती है। उन सभी के साथ ऐसा ही हुआ, कई अल्ट्रा मेगा बिजली परियोजनाएं अदालती मामलों और परिचालन संबंधी मुद्दों के कारण फंसी हुई थीं। आईबीसी के तहत जाना और कुछ इस तथ्य के कारण कि कोई भी उद्योग जो लगभग एक दशक के परेशान दौर से गुजरा है, जो खिलाड़ी जीवित रहने में सक्षम हैं, उन्हें अधिक मिलता है।
