Zurich Insurance to pick up majority stake in Kotak Mahindra General Insurance; Cello World IPO expensive; and former Australia minister nudges China.


Zurich Insurance has signed a pact to
invest around INR4,051 crore for
a 51% stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank-promoted general insurance company. It will buy an additional 19% stake within three
years of the initial acquisition. The
bank said that it is the single
largest investment by a global
strategic insurer in an Indian non-
life insurer.


Kotak Mahindra General has less than 1% market share. The Zurich deal values the company at around INR7,943 crore, which is around a third of the market cap (INR22,750 crore) of the largest player, New India Assurance.


Cello World's initial public offering (IPO) is priced on the higher side, but institutions are buying.

It's an offer for sale by existing promoters and the net proceeds of the issue will go to the selling shareholders.
