Hang Seng soars 30% in 2024: The Chinese stocks back in favour of economic growth:

Investing in the Chinese market may seem like an extreme strategy, but some investors and fund managers are willing to bite the bullet. What's pulling them to Hang Seng, and not the US market?
The Chinese government maintains a firm grip on its stock market, historically limiting foreign access. However, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange offers a more open door. Since January, the Hang Seng has surged over 30%, clawing its way back from its lows of 14,794 on the index.
The Hang Seng index and its exchange-traded fund (ETF) offer a deep-value opportunity for those willing to swim against the current.

Siddharth Bhaiya, managing director and chief investment officer at Aequitas Investment Consultancy, says, "To make money in the markets, you have to be extremely contrary. One has to be a cynic and think that nine out of ten people are wrong. From the Indian markets, we have been booking profits and sitting on 25% cash. Also, if you want to buy deep value stock then it (Hang Seng) is also extremely contrarian."
Bhaiya swears by the kind of opportunities that one sees internationally. And he was referring to the East and not the West. "[Look at] All the markets...Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Korea. China is under a lot of pressure now, so its valuations are insane. They're so cheap and [at the same time] extremely contrarian [and] deep in value. You have to fish. You have to put the bait out. Growth at some point in time is going to come," Bhaiya says.
