PEG ratio is a complex process and comes with its own set of challenges. The challenge with PEG ratio is the quality of the earning forecast and given that in an ever changing macro environment, even the best of the forecast for any business can go wrong which may impact other elements which lead to some unexpected changes.

PEG ratio is much better compared to the commonly used P/E ratio. It helps in avoiding stocks which might appear cheap but actually are not value buys.

The reason number of times growth numbers are impacted due to short term development and ratio can move a bit here, so while having a benchmark, but that also can be adjusted only a bit given the circumstances.

5G monetisation set to help Airtel going ahead:

Airtel's stock hit a record high of INR961.35.

Airtel, after a long drawn out pricing battle with Jio, seems to have won over investors. At least, that's the story Airtel's stock has been telling for quite a while.


And if you consider a market like India where there are competitors like Reliance Jio (Jio), companies like Bharti Airtel (Airtel) and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) have to buckle up.

ICICI Prudential Value Discovery fund, a top-performing fund in the value category is bullish on the stock. By August-end, Airtel accounted for 0.75% or 26.89 million shares of the overall holdings of the fund, which has a size of INR32,753 crore, data from Value Research showed.

It logged an ROCE (return on capital employed) of 16.21% in FY23, which was the highest in 13 years. The company has promising growth prospects and fund managers are lapping on it.

Many analysts expect Airtel to log double-digit CAGR in India revenue/Ebitda over FY24-26, and thus are optimistic about the prospects of the stock.

Big tax blow to insurers will make Indian cos & banks lose:


New cover story: 30% commission cap likely in
credit life policies

Many insurance companies have come under scrutiny for the payment of overriding commissions to banks and intermediaries, in addition to regular commissions.

Companies are close to agreeing to impose a 30% cap on commissions paid to corporate agencies, including banks and non-banking financial companies, for credit life policies, said people with knowledge of the matter.

The matter has been discussed in Life Insurance Council meetings over the past few months, said two persons privy to the information. While the council has not sent a formal letter yet, talks are at an advanced stage to put in place self- regulation, they said.

the insurance regulator had announced the IRDAI (Payment of Commission) Regulations, which moved away from the traditional product- specific commission structure and placed an overall cap on expenses within insurance companies, and asked insurance companies to manage operations within an overall expense limit of 30%. While insurers were allowed to pay 5% on commissions until March, they often resorted to paying hefty overriding commissions of 30-35% or even higher to gain market share.

"The regulator, while issuing the guidelines, talked about protecting consumers' interests on insurance policies and the associated commissions. So, while the regulator moved away from rule- based approach to principal-based, it may not intervene but expect industry to impose self-discipline," the CEO of a mid-sized insurance company said on condition of anonymity.

Many insurance companies have come under scrutiny for the payment of overriding commissions to banks and intermediaries, in addition to regular commissions. This practice has raised concerns about potential exploitation and an increase in management expenses within the insurance industry. 

The investigation revealed that insurance companies were covering the employee costs of banks through intermediaries, which were not transparently represented in their financial records, resulting in non- disclosure and potential violations of tax laws.

सेबी निवेशकों की सुरक्षा करना चाहता है, साथ ही प्रौद्योगिकी के उपयोग से वित्तीय बाजारों को और अधिक मजबूत बनाना चाहता है। इसमें डेरिवेटिव बाजारों के लिए ट्रेडिंग घंटे बढ़ाना, द्वितीयक बाजारों के लिए एएसबीए जैसी सुविधाएं स्थापित करना और निपटान प्रक्रिया को टी+1 से घटाकर एक घंटा करना शामिल है। 

हालांकि ब्रोकिंग समुदाय ने इस कदम का स्वागत किया है, लेकिन कार्यान्वयन करना कहना जितना आसान है, करना उतना ही आसान है। कार्वी ग्रुप के अध्यक्ष और प्रबंध निदेशक सी पार्थसारथी को प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने गिरफ्तार कर लिया। यह 2,000 करोड़ रुपये के घोटाले के कारण था, जहां इसकी प्रमुख कंपनी कार्वी स्टॉक ब्रोकिंग ने ग्राहकों की प्रतिभूतियां गिरवी रख दी थीं।

 सेबी का विचार निवेशकों को धोखाधड़ी से बचाना है, साथ ही प्रौद्योगिकी के उपयोग से वित्तीय बाजारों को और अधिक मजबूत बनाना है। “एक बार विस्तारित व्यापार शुरू होने पर ब्रोकरों के लिए प्रौद्योगिकी और जनशक्ति में परिचालन लागत बढ़ जाएगी। चूंकि देर शाम के सत्रों में वॉल्यूम धीरे-धीरे बढ़ने की उम्मीद है, इसलिए व्यवसाय को वृद्धिशील लाभ उत्पन्न करने में समय लगेगा। इसलिए, छोटे ब्रोकरों को कठिन समय का सामना करना पड़ सकता है,” 

मोतीलाल ओसवाल फाइनेंशियल सर्विसेज के उपाध्यक्ष - अनुसंधान (खुदरा) प्रमुख सिद्धार्थ खेमका बताते हैं। “समग्र पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र को इन परिवर्तनों के अनुकूल होने में कुछ समय लग सकता है। मिराए एसेट कैपिटल मार्केट्स द्वारा एम.स्टॉक के मुख्य व्यवसाय अधिकारी अरुण चौधरी कहते हैं, ''वे तेजी से नहीं हो सकते क्योंकि इसमें बहुत सारे मध्यस्थ शामिल हैं और एक छोटी सी गड़बड़ी पूरे सिस्टम को प्रभावित कर सकती है।''

On hold the plans for H-1B stamping from within the United States announced:

The program aims to simplify the visa renewal process for H&L-category employment visa applicants. However, the delay in implementing the program has caused disappointment, particularly for those planning to visit their families during the holiday season.

“The announcement of the pilot programme to streamline H-1B visa processing in the US earlier this year was met with great anticipation and hope within the immigration community. It is both encouraging and disappointing to note the developments surrounding this programme,” Emily Neumann, attorney at Houston-based business immigration law firm Reddy & Neumann, told TOI's Ishani Duttagupta.

For Indian professionals facing backlogs for permanent residence or green cards, being able to renew H-1B visas in the US will eliminate concerns about potential delays due to administrative processing at embassies and consulates. This move offers much-needed stability and convenience to visa holders and their employers.

Sebi's protection for investors & finance markets:


 Sebi wants to protect investors, and also make financial markets more robust with the use of technology. This includes extending trading hours for derivative markets, putting in ASBA-like facilities for secondary markets, and reducing the settlement process from T+1 to one hour. 

While the broking community has welcomed the move, implementation is easier said than done.C Parthasarthy, chairman and managing director of Karvy Group, was arrested by the enforcement directorate. 

This was on account of INR2,000 crore scam where Karvy Stock broking, its flagship company, had pledged securities belonging to clients. Sebi’s idea is to protect investors from fraud, and also make financial markets more robust with the use of technology.

 “Operational cost — in technology and manpower — will increase for brokers once extended trading is in place. Since volumes are expected to move up gradually in late evening sessions, it will take time for business to generate incremental profits. Hence, small brokers are likely to face a tough time,” explains Siddhartha Khemka, vice-president - head of research (retail) at Motilal Oswal Financial Services.

“The overall ecosystem may take some time to adapt to these changes. They may not happen swiftly because there are too many intermediaries involved and a small glitch could impact the systems all over,” says Arun Chaudhry, chief business officer at m.Stock by Mirae Asset Capital Markets.“Currently when a client defaults on payments, the broker steps in to cover for the shortfall.

 This essentially means the broker takes on liability risk for his client. Now, with the implementation of ASBA, the broker is out of the picture and liability risk remains a concern,” warns Tejas Khoday, co-founder and CEO of Fyers, a tech-focused broker.

 “First the trading for futures must be extended so that institutions can participate, then options can follow suit. Otherwise, options will be thinly traded, which may give rise to price manipulation,” insists Wadhwa.
